Sizewell C Limited is developing the Suffolk-based Sizewell C nuclear plant and is described as the first nuclear power project globally to be financed with independent private financial investors. The company is also the first new nuclear project in the UK to have attracted significant private finance.
The financing reached financial close with a GBP 5 billion export credit-backed debt raise through the BpifranceAE export credit facility, after the equity raise and final investment decision in July 2025. Thirteen banks supported the GBP 5 billion debt raise, underscoring the scale of lender backing for the structure.
Financial close unlocks full-scale construction of the project, and once operational the plant could deliver about GBP 2 billion of annual savings across the future low-carbon electricity system. The transaction is presented as a landmark for UK nuclear financing and consumer power costs.
